Message from the Principal

Idlewild’s Challenge for all students is to be Courageous Risk-Takers!

It really is critical to take each day as an opportunity to connect with others, work hard and to be courageous.  It truly is inspiring to sit at a small table with students when they are trying every day to gain a little more skill in their reading ability. Young ones in many ways are more courageous than we are as adults!  We certainly have something to learn from them!  As you spend time with your child in the next few weeks, ask them how they feel they are being courageous risk takers.

There is a great story, Jabari Jumps by Gaia Cornwall, where a young man is learning to have courage to jump off a diving board.  The young man starts with climbing up on the diving board but isn’t quite ready to jump.  His father encourages him, accepts Jabari’s decision when he isn’t ready and continues to be supportive.  He says to his son, “Its ok to be scared” and  “It’s also ok to tell yourself that you are ready and then it feels like a surprise.”
